Uber, one of the largest ride-hailing companies, has always been in the news for some of the other reasons.It was in the news for shutting its operations in Austin due to strict regulations and then in Paris, it had to shut down due to the display of different currencies. And this time there were issues going on in Adelaide and all these major protests were basically carried out by the local people along with the Taxi industry Associations. What is the issue all about?

The transport minister Mr. Stephen Mulligan declared that the taxi levy had to compensate the taxi drivers as well as the car owners with some money. Listening to this, the ride-sharing companies were outraged and they carried out a polling event by Lonergan Research which is a company based in Sydney. The company surveyed almost one hundred and four people from the city of South Wales and nearly one thousand and two people from Australia respectively.

The results then revealed that almost fifty-nine people were against the fact that the taxi plate owners must be compensated while the ratio of seventy percent opposed the levy that has to be paid to the taxi owners.Looking at the request being placed by the Taxi Associations, the government had to decide on something once and for all.

South Australia and the New South Wales then decided finally to come up with the idea of the taxi levy and implement it accordingly. In response to this, the ride-hailing companies were against this and replied saying that the government should not impose such rules on the companies as well as the public because the taxi industry to have got a right to provide rides to the riders and acquire money for the services offered.

As per the sources revealed by Uber, they said that if the mode of transportations is made cost efficient then people get to choose the type of transportation they want to go in for despite their own transport. The government also blamed Uber saying that the people should be aware of who was driving the car and whether it has been checked or not. Most importantly there are higher cases of assaults and rape registered by the passengers against these drivers. So, it is important that you need to take extra care when you get into the car and when you get out of it.

Listening to such allegations, Uber too spoke up with a report and denied that the points said against them is not correct. The drivers are all fully accredited and have passed the necessary South Australian licensing requirements and the different background checks. They also clarified saying that Uber allows its passengers to track their journey as well as share it.

The ride-sharing companies then shut down their operations in Adelaide while the Taxi plate owners were not happy with the State government asking the riders to pay for their benefits which were absolutely not welcoming australian taxi industry news for them.
